What happens to my file during upload?

After uploading your videos we convert them so that they can be played on all devices. Here you can find out which formats we use.

Video file

Why do we transcode your videos after the upload?

After uploading your videos, we convert them into an HTML5-compatible format so that they can be played on all devices without any problems.

Details about our video transcoding:

  • Codec: h. 264

  • Bit Rate: We keep the bitrate of your original file

  • Frame Rate: We keep the bitrate of your original file up to 60 fps

  • Resolution: Up to Full HD (1080p, 1920x1080px) we keep the resolution of your original file. If your uploaded video is larger than Full HD, we scale it down proportionally to 1920x1080px without changing the aspect ratio.

Will my uploaded image be compressed or converted?

We will never convert uploaded image files in order not to influence the quality. That means that we rely on the browser to display your image files.

If you have a large file, like a TIFF file, you want to upload to Filestage; it could happen that the browser automatically compressed this file. Unfortunately, only a few browsers currently support TIFF files.
We recommend you, to convert these files to JPG/ PNG files before you upload them to Filestage.

Good to know

When you click on the download button, you and your reviewers always download the original file, not the transcoded version. This is true for PDFs, Images, Audio Files, and Videos.
